Description
Carved from locally grown sycamore this bowl has been painted with casein paint, used as the under-layer before gilding, the colour felt right against the raw sycamore and so it was lacquered and left just like that.

This is part of a series of unique objects made by George exploring material, technique and texture. Pushing slightly beyond the thoroughly functional, these pieces are worked intuitively, some in a flurry of inspiration and energy, others over time, returned to and re-worked until they feel right. These are intended as sculptural artefacts as much as usable homewares.
