Pressed plants are deeply evocative and nostalgic – a gesture to memorialise a moment, to preserve something suspended between life and death. Our Herbaria Collection captures the shifting seasonal landscape and transformation of the quieter, uncultivated plants surrounding our studio and workshop in rural Wiltshire. By collecting, pressing and preserving plants in varying states of life and decay, we developed a process to integrate plant material into panels for our sculptural pieces by embalming them between Japanese paper and silk with shellac. These translucent skins with a soft amber finish work beautifully for lighting and furniture, offering a rich tapestry and insight into the plant’s origins and lifecycle.
Cabinet, Winter Herbarium – Wiltshire
Cabinet, Winter Herbarium Wiltshire is our first display of working with pressed and preserved plants and capturing their transformation in the pieces we make. Scaled to human proportions, the cabinet itself becomes a curiosity rather than a gallery for the curiosities within. Made of four translucent silk and paper skins pressed with autumn and winter plants, each skin is stretched around a timber frame and backlit to create a warm and beautiful glow. The Herbarium Cabinet is available for commission throughout the seasons with plants from your garden or a nostalgic place of note.
Lightbox, Spring/ Summer Herbarium – Wiltshire
While experimenting with Cabinet, Winter Herbarium, we held up the silk and paper skins to the window and became enchanted by the light glowing through them, illuminating the veins and cellular structures of the plants. Lightbox, Spring/ Summer Herbarium effortlessly blends natural and interior lighting, bringing nature inside and grounding the room. We foraged plants locally, such as buttercups, thistles, elderflower and smokebush. The Lightbox is wall-based and A3 in size. It is available for commission throughout the seasons with plants from your garden or a nostalgic place of note.
