We were incredibly pleased to be invited to participate in Wallpaper* Magazine’s 2015 Handmade project. They paired us up with a talented young designer with a keen eye for luxury detail – Kacper Hamilton. The brief was to design a wine crate, for bio-dynamic producer Hegarty Chamans, that could ‘transform into beautiful storage in the home’. Kacper devised a modular 3D shape inspired by puzzle-games and together we designed TESSERA. A single 6 bottle crate comprises two modules – held together with leather straps. With these modules you can begin to build a sculptural wine-holding puzzle. The crates themselves were handcrafted by George Winks in our workshop from English Oak – scorched on the interior in the manner of wine barrels – and the bottles are held in place by a web of waxed black jute cord that weaves in and out of the crate walls with  brass retaining rods to close up the ends.

It was one of the most challenging projects we’ve undertaken but were honoured to see the piece exhibited at the 2015 Salone del Mobile in Milan for the Handmade Exhibition and in print in the August edition of Wallpaper* Magazine
